Grameen Healthcare Services Limited (GHS) has undertaken a three-month long "Food Support Initiative" to help the families that are in dire need for food and welfare support amid fallout from the coronavirus outbreak.
GHS is a social business organisation which has been providing healthcare services to the country's poor and downtrodden population in remote areas for more than a decade and operating four eye hospitals in four different districts – Bogura, Barishal, Thakurgaon, and Satkhira.
As the part of the programme, GHS has already provided 135 families with a maximum 10kg rice, 2kg lentils, 2kg flour, 2kg onion, 5kg potatoes, 2 litres of soybean oil, 1kg salt, 2 soaps and Tk 200 as emergency cash as food and welfare support based on the size of the families.
The organisation is planning to expand the programme to support additional 405 families till June this year.
Three hospitals under GHS have been carrying out the food distribution in Bogura, Barishal and Thakurgaon districts. Since everyone is under lockdown, GHS employees are delivering the food from door to door.
GHS employees have generously donated their one day's salary to help create the fund to support the poor families. To continue the initiative, GHS has created a relief fund to provide food support to the poor and underprivileged families in specific areas for the next three months.
